The National Electrical System has been grappling with alerts and blackouts due to high demand. Addressing this situation, however, may be only a matter of granting pending permits, according to Régulo Salinas, President of the Energy Commission, CCE and CONCAMIN. There is already infrastructure capable of delivering an extra 2,000MW and ready to come online, equivalent to 4% of current consumption, while most emergencies occur when reserves fall below 3%, Salinas states.
